Neet Honolulu 2016

Neet is a small convention that happened on Friday Oct 21 at the Japanese Cultural center.  I wasn’t really aware it existed until recently when a fellow photographer asked if I planned to attend.  Luckily I was able to make it out and stay for a majority of the time.  The con lasted from 5-10pm and admission was $5, at that price range it doesn’t exactly feel like it needs to live up to any expectations.  So I personally had a pretty positive experience there.

The main ballroom held a small stage for the cosplay contest and vendors.  I couldn’t handle the warmth generated by the crowd so I spent a good amount of my time at the parking lot roof which had a mini car show.  Most of the cars had some sort of anime theme like itasha or just nicely done imports.  Unfortunately the car area was not planned properly and very difficult to enjoy once the sun went down. Since the con started right around sunset, I feel like a lot of the work went unappreciated since no one could really see.

I rolled in by myself but managed to run into enough people that I didn’t get bored easily and leave. It’s nice to know that even though I don’t have a clique, I can bounce between everyone.  I didn’t take any video this time, just some snaps with the Fuji XT-2 .  Focusing was pretty difficult due to the lack of ambient light up stairs and the wind blowing us around.  Thanks to a few guys hanging around and holding my flash, it really helped with the situation.  I wish I could pay you, but all I can offer are bro hugs.

Here’s to hoping the venue is a tad bit bigger, the AC is stronger, the auto area gets some lights and the entry price stays low.  I actually don’t know how the cosplay contest went… Maybe next year I won’t be over heating.
