Runa’s Beach Day

Runa was visiting from Japan and got in contact with a fellow photographer, he was kind enough to invite me along and I got some killer shots out of it.  The timing was pretty rough since it was right around lunch.   The light ends up being the harshest at this time of the day and it was no exception for this shoot.   Runa powered through that bright sun and so did we, much to my delight the photos turned out better than I could have expected.   I wish there were more time with her, but that wouldn’t happen since we caught her at the end of her stay in Hawaii.

Got an umbrella

A friend hooked me up with a large umbrella to soften up the light on my flash.   I chose a larger size not realizing how much it is to handle when you’re outside and the wind is hitting you or even fitting this in doors.  I really should start bringing assistants out or perhaps an extra 40 lbs worth of sandbags could do the trick, this could be a serious workout all by myself.

This time around @genkidenki hung out while I played around with the settings.   The buildings added a bit of pizzazz to the image with all the colors they had to offer.

Silk Cosplay

Salt is a great spot for practicing my hobby.  The guards, so far, have been very calm anytime I show up to shoot.  To keep it casual, I’m usually shooting with whatever natural light I can find, but there has been an urge to expand my skill set into off camera flash while outside.   Balancing the ambient and flash light is still difficult for me even though this shoot was a while back.   I was lucky to have a patient model and a few friends guide me through this.

Much thanks to the talented @sachisenpai , @krislabang @islandbag
