There was a badly planned Sunday where Plan A, B, and C fell through since we started a bit too late. On the bright side I still had some boba and a neat spot to snap a few photos. Sachi’s shirt had some great print of a koi fish that deserved some attention. more “Everything was closed”
I had zero intention on using my Instax mini 90 for this trip so I left it at home. I Randomly came across some of the newly released Black and White Instax film at a good price. Naturally I was forced to pick up a few and eager to try it out. Earlier in the year I had convinced my cousin to pick up the same camera as me, so it wasn’t too hard to track down a loaner for the trip. I also had my first sampling of the new printer at this time. The printer entertained me a few times and before I knew it, I also had to purchase a 60 pack.
I had a great opportunity to shoot in a studio for the first time thanks to my friend Ed. He held my hand as I worked with studio strobes and gave lots of great tips that I have generally forgotten. The advice may need to be repeated a few dozen times. This experience has motivated me to set something up in my living room at home, the main problem is convincing people to come to this side of the island for photos. Instead of going out on crazy adventures my trip was rather low key, spending a lot of time trying to meet up with my friends. It may be considered boring to handle my time up there like I did, but I was so happy to meet up with everyone.
I was given a chance to fly up to San Jose for Thanks Giving and was not able to make any posts due to a lack of a proper laptop. Now that I’m back, it’s time to catch up on everything or at least make an attempt. I haven’t been to Cali during a winter in over 10 years and forgot how cold it can get. Most of my time was spent eating pho, drinking boba and trying to take photos with frozen hands. Granted the coldest it got was probably 40 degrees, Hawaii people do not do so well under these conditions.
I think this first round of posts will end up like a mini food blog. I ate a lot of great stuff and kept going back for more. The Vietnam Town in San Jose was down the street from where I stayed and it offered 4 different boba spots that were quality. Naturally, I’d get a drink, grab some pho then head back to another boba spot. Considering how much sugar is in these drinks, I’m lucky I didn’t come home with diabetes, everything would have been healthy’ish if I stayed away from the cheeseburgers but I got caught up in the Inn and Out goodness.
My Next Post will focus more on the things I got to join in and less about food.
Mori is a store located in Ward Center that I recently got to know a bit better due to a pop up cat cafe that was held there. They recently had their final day at their current location and I dropped in a tad late to the party, but still managed to enjoy one last look around their set up. There was a vendor with tacos and some discounts on selected items. Mori will be reopening at the new South Shore Market in Ward around the second week of November.
Caught up in the moment of taking some cool photos in a new spot, I forgot to put sunblock on. more “Suns out Buns out”
So instead of being a cool kid and going out on a Friday night, I spent my time playing a video game. more “Overwatch > Social Life”
I managed to get a small gig shooting some products for a local skate brand. All Day I Dream About Pizza had a few shirts and pins to display. This was the first time I got to shoot products for someone and the general theme kind of lined up with how I normally shoot anyway. more “All Day I Dream About Pizza”
So I know I’m not the only one that spends their trip eating, but sometimes I feel bad eating everything in sight and focusing every hang out around food. There are friends and family to see when I make my annual trip to San Jose, but it’s difficult to see them when food is blocking the view. I also found that editing photos on my current laptop is not the deals, the display is not accurate to what I’m used to. more “All I do is eat on trips”
Lately, I’ve been walking up and down Chinatown looking for cats and bringing friends along when someone has time. I had my Fuji XT-1 on hand with the 12mm Rokinon and 56mm fujinon lenses. more “Wandering around Chinatown”
