Studio Practice with Aiko

Creating a very ghetto rigged studio out of my living room has been surprisingly constructive. Shoving around all the furniture and setting up some sort of background brings out a little creativity to get things in order.  I’ll need to pick up pieces of furniture or something to add to the photos.  @spicyaoiroll had a lovely black dress that we used to shoot with a white backdrop.  I could see myself getting tired of white, so even just a different color of paper roll would be nice.   We snapped a couple more outback with a vape.  When the wind isn’t a problem, the clouds created can make for a really unique element in the photo.

Beach D.VA

The wonderful thing about Overwatch is the huge variety of outfits available for the cosplay community.   Masapuff picked up a swimsuit and we hit up the beach for some photos and snacks.  The tide has been messing with the spots I frequent in town so we switched it up a few times to see what worked best.  The only downside to moving so much is having to clean off the sand before getting into the car.  As much as I never expected to use it, the tilt screen for these newer cameras can be pretty useful.   I couldn’t get the perspective I desired until I held the camera way above my head and it would have been much more difficult to focus without such a useful feature.

Got an umbrella

A friend hooked me up with a large umbrella to soften up the light on my flash.   I chose a larger size not realizing how much it is to handle when you’re outside and the wind is hitting you or even fitting this in doors.  I really should start bringing assistants out or perhaps an extra 40 lbs worth of sandbags could do the trick, this could be a serious workout all by myself.

This time around @genkidenki hung out while I played around with the settings.   The buildings added a bit of pizzazz to the image with all the colors they had to offer.

Sheer sunset

Bonnie had this nice little body suit and sheer robe to shoot with.   Naturally, I wanted to hit up a spot that let the sun shine through.  As nice as the spot is for photos, there tends to be a lot of cat calling from people driving by and even going so far as almost causing accidents when they stop paying attention to driving.

Beach session with the Fuji XT-2

I’ve been bringing out the XT-2 pretty consistently since I got it.  This day was no different, the 56mm Fujinon was the only lens I used for this day out with Lauren.  The focal length took some getting used to.  I initially shot at 135mm for a majority of the time last year.  While I do enjoy the compression from such a long lens, it’s nice to work in areas that have limited space, something the 135mm lens wouldn’t do easily. This area didn’t have much room to step back so it worked out very well.

All Day I Dream About Pizza

I managed to get a small gig shooting some products for a local skate brand. All Day I Dream About Pizza had a few shirts and pins to display.  This was the first time I got to shoot products for someone and the general theme kind of lined up with how I normally shoot anyway.   more “All Day I Dream About Pizza”

CatParty Walks 09 Valentine

I had this post on hold for who knows how long, I was hoping to get the audio for my walk out, but it’s not going smoothly.   I’m at the point where I would just like to put out a few photos from this shoot so here I am.   Valentine brought along her twin sister as we walked around several spots, we moved from Chinatown to all sides of Kakaako.  It was a pretty eventful start due to the run ins with some crack heads.  It calmed down and we managed to  finish up the rest of the shoot.

Eventually, I’ll have the video ready for this shoot, but don’t hold your breath.   I’m attempting to get Valentine to do the audio with me, she’s now living in Korea so  we will see how that goes.
